Name & History
This popular variety got the name from a French city, Chantenay-Villedieu. A district of the other very well known “carrot” city, Nantes! It’s obvious that the French are competitive spirits! Born at early 1800s, Carrot Red Cored Chantenay came to USA at about 1930 and from then it became a favorite among gardeners and growers.
Description
This variety offers a delicious deep orange flesh with smooth soft skin and small but crispy core . Tolerant variety to cracking and splitting and is stores very well in winter. It also gets sweeter and more tender with time. It produces large yields of 6 Inch – 15cm that are suitable for canning and pickling!
Culinary uses
You can enjoy it roasted or boiled in your soups, but also raw in your salads. Excellent variety for juicing also, as with 2 carrots you can have a full glass of nectar!
